Capturing 1000fps Slow Motion with the Motocrane Radical and Freefly Ember
The goal of this shoot was to take a typical mud splash shot and push the boundaries of what’s possible for this classic shot. We combined high speed camera movement from our Motocrane Radical and the slow motion 1000fps capabilities of the Freefly Ember to create visuals that have never been seen before.
Stave Lake was the perfect spot as it provided us with unlimited mud as well as a beautiful lake and mountain backdrop which gave us with the ideal setting for this high-speed experiment.
After initial test shots, we realized that to achieve something truly unique we had to swing the Motocrane arm and camera directly into the mud spray created by the vehicle. After a few takes, and getting the whole crew fully aligned with the detailed plan, we were able to get the shot we’d been dreaming of.
The success of this shoot has solidified the Motocrane Radical & Freefly Ember combination as one of our preferred setups for commercial projects. Creating these cinematic shots isn’t possible without the proper gear so it’s exciting for us to provide this solution for our clients and continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in car commercial cinematography.
